What Is a Dentistry MMI?

MMI stands for Multiple Mini Interview. Instead of one long interview, applicants move through a series of shorter stations. Each station may assess a different skill or competency.

Dental Panel Interviews: How They Differ from MMIs

Dental panel interviews involve a longer, more continuous discussion than a typical MMI station. Applicants may be questioned by several interviewers and expected to develop answers in greater depth, respond to follow-up questions and justify their reasoning.

A panel may move between motivation for dentistry, work experience, ethics, professionalism, teamwork and current issues within one conversation. Strong candidates need to communicate naturally, avoid repetitive answers and adapt when an interviewer challenges an assumption or introduces new information.

  • Why dentistry rather than another healthcare profession, and which experiences most influenced that decision?
  • What did you observe during dental work experience that changed your understanding of the profession?
  • A nervous patient repeatedly cancels treatment because of anxiety. How would you approach the situation?
  • A patient refuses a treatment that you believe would benefit them. What factors would you consider?
